The Jordan River Parkway Trail links 15 cities, 3 counties, and countless stakeholders as it travels through Salt Lake Valley from Utah Lake to the Great Salt Lake. But the Parkway has much more than the trail to offer visitors. Check out these Jordan River Parkway public and private places you can discover along the river:
Inlet Park
1. Inlet Park, 222 Saratoga Road, Saratoga Springs, UT 84045, features fishing spots, walking trails, a pavilion for a shaded lunch, a playground, and the Jordan River Radio Control Airplane Park. The nearby Inlet Park Hot Springs offers three different pools heated to roughly 109 degrees, year round. Inlet Park also offers popular access to Utah Lake for fishing and recreation.
Willow Park
2. Willow Park, 9800 West 300 North, Lehi, UT 84043, features 50 acres of willow trees and open grassy areas, Willow Park offers a number of options when it comes to recreation and relaxation. Nestled within the trees, features include camping sites complete with fire rings, RV and trailer parking, grassy open space for activities, a canoe launch, and a playground.
Jordan River Narrows
3. Jordan River Narrows, 1100 Jordan Narrows Road, Bluffdale, UT 84065, is the stretch of the river that flows below Point of the Mountain. The Jordan Narrows Regional Trailhead, located in Bluffdale, connects the Jordan River Parkway to the Jordan Narrows Trail. Nearby is Camp Williams, a National Guard training site, and Turner Dam, the first of two dams on the river.
Spring View Farms Open Space
4. Spring View Farms Open Space, 1150 West 14600 South, Bluffdale, UT 84065, includes 4.5 miles of paved trails and 21 acres of natural open space between Bangerter Highway and 14600 South. The Spring View Farms Open Space features community parks, a major trailhead at 14600 South, natural features, such as ponds, streams, and wetlands, and picnic areas.
Riverbend Golf Course
5. Riverbend Golf Course, 1040 West 12800 South, Riverton, UTAH 84065, follows the banks of the scenic Jordan River as it winds its way through the center of the Salt Lake Valley. Ranked as one of the top 10 golf courses in the state of Utah, Riverbend presents elevated tees and overlooks. The Jordan River natural wetlands and riparian habitat give this course its own identity.
Riverton Wetland Ponds
6. Riverton Wetland Ponds, 124000 River Vista Drive, Riverton, UT, 84065, features seven acres of emergent wetlands and two ponds. These ponds each feature a raised platform and gazebo perfect for wildlife viewing or relaxing in the shade. Nearby, the Dr. O. Roi Hardy Park features a parking area, playground, pavilion, and walking trails.
Riverbend Natural Area
7. Riverbend Natural Area, 1000 West 13000 South, Draper, UT 84020, was constructed in 2002 by Salt Lake County as an emergent bench along a half mile eroding section of Jordan River. This and the surrounding 100 acres, became the Riverbend Natural Area. The site was regraded and riverbank stabilization techniques were used to restore the bank. Improvements included $80,000 in native trees, shrubs and hydro-seeding.
The Galena/Soónkahni Preserve
8. The Galena/Soónkahni Preserve, 800 West 12300 South, Draper, UT 84020, at 250 acres, is the largest Jordan River preserve in Salt Lake County. The site features the Jordan River meanders, sand bars, and oxbows, riparian and wetland habitat, and drier upland habitat. The property includes an archaeological site with dwellings and artifacts ranking among the oldest known in Utah.
River Oaks Golf Course
9. River Oaks Golf Course, 9300 Riverside Drive, Sandy, UT 84070, is surrounded by wetlands and is one of the most enjoyable courses in the valley for all levels of players. Featuring excellent views of the Jordan River and adjacent wetland areas, this golf course offers the best of both worlds between developed recreation and passive wildlife viewing.
Sandy Pond Urban Fishery
10. Sandy Pond Urban Fishery, 1000 West 9800 South, Sandy, UT 84070, is a 3-acre pond that allows for an urban fishing and boating. Likely catches include bluegill, largemouth bass, channel catfish and rainbow trout. The site amenities include a fishing pier and cleaning station, trails, playground, and pavilion. The daily bag and possession limit is two fish.
Jordan River Migratory Bird Reserve
11. Jordan River Migratory Bird Reserve, 500 West 9800 South, South Jordan, UT 84095, includes 120 acres of restored riparian habitat. The reserve provides necessary habitat for neo-tropical migratory songbirds. These birds breed at the reserve and elsewhere in the U.S. and Canada in the summer, and then return to Mexico and Central and South America each winter.
South Jordan Urban Fishery
12. South Jordan Urban Fishery, 920 West 11200 South, South Jordan, UT 84095, provides 2.2 acres of open water, in three separate ponds, to cast a rod. Likely catches include rainbow trout, largemouth bass, bluegill, black bullhead or channel catfish. The park space also includes walking trails and pavilions, perfect for relaxing in the shade after fishing.
Gardner Village
13. Gardner Village, 1100 West 7800 South, West Jordan, UT 84088, where you can stroll brick-lined paths and discover 22 boutique-style shops surrounding the historic Gardner Mill. With the ambiance and charm of an early Utah Village, you’ll enjoy shopping and dining at Gardner Village. Spend the afternoon or day milling around Utah’s favorite shopping, dining and historic experience.
Big Bend Restoration Area
14. Big Bend Restoration Area, 850 West 9000 South, West Jordan, UT 84088, is an 70-acre natural area, providing habitat for migratory birds and other wildlife. Restoration is currently being planned and, when completed, the project will provide one mile of restored river channel, wetlands, and riparian habitat, along with an urban fishery and iconic structure and viewing area.
Riverwalk Shopping Center
15. Riverwalk Shopping Center, 700 West 7200 South, Midvale, UTAH 84047, is less than half a mile away from the Jordan River and the Bingham Junction TRAX station. It presents an opportunity just off the Jordan River Parkway to grab a bite to eat, an ice cream cone, or do some shopping. Currently undergoing redevelopment, the shopping center will become a prime shopping destination along the river.
Riverwalk Park Open Space
16. Riverwalk Park Open Space, 1013 Village Bend Lane, Midvale, UT 84047, is a 20-acre site, which includes a wetland area, featuring an open water pond. Walking trails, throughout the site, connect the Jordan River Parkway to the mixed-use development and TRAX station at Bingham Junction. The nearby Riverwalk Park offers 18 acres of grassy open space and a playground.
Walden Park
17. Walden Park, 5425 Murray Parkway Avenue, Murray, UT 84107, is adjacent to the Jordan River and features a playground, pavilions, walking trails, sand volleyball, and barbecue pits. In 2009, the park underwent a restoration that repaired, enhanced, and stabilized the steep and poorly vegetated banks. The banks were regraded and revegetated with native, riparian vegetation.
Kennecott Nature Center
18. Kennecott Nature Center, 5044 Lucky Clover Lane, Murray, UT 84107, provides opportunities for children from Murray School District and selected Granite School District fourth-grade classes to enjoy observing and learning about nature through hands-on experiences and observations. The 1600 square foot classroom is nestled on the second largest wetland site of the Jordan River.
Millrace Park
19. Millrace Park, 1150 West 5400 South, Taylorsville, UT 84123, is a nearly 20-acre regional park. This park features a fenced off-leash dog park, complete with shade and benches. The Millrace Park Pond offers an urban fishery stocked with rainbow trout, largemouth bass, bluegill, black bullhead and channel catfish. The park also offers pavilions, restrooms, and a playground.
Little Confluence Open Space
20. Little Confluence Open Space, 675 West 4800 South, Taylorsville, UT 84123, is a 9-acre site at the junction of Little Cottonwood Creek and the Jordan River. Hundreds of cottonwoods and willows have been planted by Salt Lake County’s Million Trees Program, in conjunction with Tree Utah. The site features a nature trail, boat ramp, and picnic pavilion, perfect for wildlife viewing.
Cottonwood Pond Restoration Site
21. Cottonwood Pond Restoration Site, 1200 West 3300 South, West Valley City, UT 84119, was once a neglected storm water detention pond. It is undergoing a restoration process, in conjunction with local high school students and residents. The pond is becoming a site that welcomes the public to learn about the river, while also purifying polluted storm water before it enters the Jordan River.
Utah Cultural Celebration Center
22. Utah Cultural Celebration Center, 1355 West 3100 South, West Valley City, UT 84119, is a beautiful facility designed to strengthen a sense of unity among the people of the Wasatch Front. The Center highlights cultural wealth and creativity, and offers a forum to celebrate the community’s talents in music, dance, performance and visual arts.
General Holm Park
23. General Holm Park, 1050 Carlisle Park Lane, South Salt Lake, UT 84119, is a 3.75-acre regional, trailhead park to the Jordan River Parkway commemorating MG Holm WWII Veterans. The park features a reservable pavilion, playground, picnic tables, and plenty of grassy open space for activities. The nearby Meadowbrook Natural Area can be accessed from the park.
Meadowbrook Natural Area
24. Meadowbrook Natural Area, 1100 West 3800 South, South Salt Lake, UT 84119, is a protected natural open space area originally established to mitigate the impacts to wetlands from the Little Dell Reservoir in East Canyon. This area highlights a cottonwood forest established from flooding in 1984 and picturesque views of the Oquirrh Mountains in the distance.
900 South Stormwater Wetland
25. 900 South Stormwater Wetland, 900 West 900 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84104, is an enhanced 1.5-acre riparian corridor and wetlands, featuring deep water habitat, marshes, and interpretative signage and boardwalks. This demonstration project filters polluted urban runoff and storm water from the 900 South storm drain outfall before it flows into the Jordan River.
International Peace Gardens
26. International Peace Gardens, 900 West 1000 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84104, comprises 11 acres adjacent to the Jordan River. The cultural monuments and gardens symbolize the true spirit of democracy and world peace, brotherly love, history, literature, and the cultural heritage of many lands. Currently, 28 countries are represented in the gardens.
Chevron Mile Trail
27. Chevron Mile Trail, 1010 Recreation Way, North Salt Lake, UT 84054, connects the southern end of the Legacy Parkway trail to the northern end of the Jordan River Parkway trail. The first mile was constructed in Davis County in 2010. It received it’s name due to a generous contribution from the Chevron Corporation towards the completion of this trail section.
Legacy Nature Preserve
28. Legacy Nature Preserve, 2100 West 500 South, Woods Cross, UT 84087, contains 2,100 acres of bare mudflats, seasonal wet meadow, deep emergent marshes, and meandering open water channels. The preserve links the Great Salt Lake ecosystem to the Wasatch Mountain ecosystems. The preserve is not open to the public, however, it can be viewed from the Legacy Parkway trail.
